Job Title: Business Development Manager
Job Title: Lagos
Key Aims and Objectives:
- Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business
- Cold calling as appropriate within your market, ensuring a robust pipeline of opportunities
- Meet potential clients: growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network
- Plan approaches and pitches to clients
- Set up meetings between client decision makers and the company’s practice leaders/Principals
- Work with senior managers to develop proposals that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives
- Work with the marketing team to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are fulfilled within a timely manner
- Support the BD director in building and developing key client relationships
- Participate in and/or deliver presentations to clients as needed
- Host client delegations as part of the client pre-award due diligence process
- Attend exhibitions and conferences and host educational marketing seminars for the region
Prime Responsibilities and Duties:
- Evaluate opportunities to educate the market and generate effective proposals.
- Ensure that all bids are fully compliant including in terms of Nigerian Content Act
- Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
- Present to, and consult with, senior management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and opportunity channels.
- Submit monthly progress reports with accurate data and forecasted sales targets
- Liaise with the Nigerdock marketing team and Jagal marketing team to develop and tailor literature explaining the company’s values, experience, capability and capacity to suite particular client organisations.
Client Relation
- Present new ideas to enhance existing relationships
- Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs
- Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs
Other Duties:
- Promote the Company at all times.
- Promote a professional work ethic amongst all staff.
- Comply with all policies, processes and procedures.
- Identify deficiencies in any company process and procedures and implement remedies.
- Ensure that issues of non-compliance are dealt with effectively.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain accurate and professional records.
- Participate in such senior meetings as required
- Provide support and assistance to the BD director as required
- Represent the Company at conferences and exhibitions
- Other duties as required
- Reports:
- Ad hoc reports and research
- Undertake the required reporting functions to keep the Nigerdock Executive Team informed of progress to approved projects and bids/pipeline
- Manage all reporting.
- Job Requirements
- Key internal interfaces:
- Nigerdock Executive Team, Jagal BD and Marketing team, Clients, JVs, other Group Functions
The Persons:
- Degree or equivalent in fields such as marketing or business with related industry and key client experience
- Level of knowledge associated with 8+ years of relevant industry related experience.
- Senior Management experience in leading other business development, proposal development, marketing, and sales managers and professionals.
- Knowledge of the Shipping, logistics and oil and gas markets.
- Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability in effective negotiation and closing of profitable business.
- Strong ability to persuade and influence others.
- Demonstrated clients contacts and relationships with industry and client decision makers in the Shipping and Logistics industry, also contacts in the Oil and Gas services industry would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated initiative and assertiveness, the ability to plan and manage work in an efficient manner, and the ability to work well under stress and time constraints.
- Leadership skills required to assemble a project or account team, outline a win strategy, and lead the successful implementation of the account plan or win strategy.
- Strong ability to persuade and influence others is critical.
- Ability to take a leadership role in preparing and presenting complex program proposal and reports to senior level management (internal and external) is critical.
- Passion for delivering positive, measurable results.
- Internal motivation with self-confidence and patience and a strong desire to exceed expectations.
- Demonstrated portfolio of successful project opportunity pursuit strategies leading to successful business acquisition.
- Excellent Presentational and Interpersonal skills.
- Excellent spoken and written English. Other languages would be an advantage.
