Job Position: Mechanical Fitter
Purpose/Role
- To ensure precise fit out of gearboxes, pumps and valves; balancing and testing; assembly of mining equipment plus associated components and general fitting, as well as general Turning and Milling
Prime Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure sufficient task analysis are completed to carry work out safely
- Perform assigned duties in a timely and safe manner
- General machining including use of: Large and Small Centre Lathes, Milling Machines, Radial Drills, Shaper Machines, Horizontal and Vertical Boring Machines
- General fitting including the use of: Gear reduction units of all size and type, Fluid Couplings and Power Transmission Devices, Boiler Feed Pumps and other Critical Process Pumps, Hydraulic Cylinders, Pump Impeller Rotating Assemblies, Conveying, Crushing and Stockpiling/Reclaiming Equipment, Large Components of Drag Lines and Underground Mining Equipment and Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
- Co-ordinate and work in a team environment
- Maintain and use equipment as designed
- Ensure that work is performed according to current schedule of works
- Ensure all work is carried out to quality and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time
- Daily time cards are completed accurately and on time
- Strict adherence to company procedures and safety practices
- Application of fine tolerances to machined surfaces when fitting bearings, gearing, seals etc to shafts and hubs with respect to heating/freezing techniques and the like
- Ability to sketch and accurately measure mechanical components from Gearboxes, Pumps and other Drive Equipment
Other Duties:
- Participation in all Tool Box Talk
- Strict adherence to PPE
The Person
- 5- 8 years minimum working experience in the fabrication field
- Trade qualified
- Sound knowledge of gearboxes, pumps, valves, marine equipment
