Job Description

The Manager, IP & Transmission Design shall ensure the smooth design, implementation and  management of the Vodacom Business Nigeria (VBN's) Core IP/MPLS and Transmission {Ethernet, TDM (SDH) DWDM (OTN)} networks and also ensure maximum availability on the core.
He/she shall also manage capacity planning and ensure that the entire network is built and secured to modern acceptable standards.
He/she will have leadership, development and line-management responsibilities for the IP & Transmission Design team and ensure the continuous improvement of its performance.
He/she is also expected to lead the resolution of complex network problems and give recommendations for network evolution.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out professionally the planning, design and implementation of core IP/MPLS and Transmission {Ethernet, TDM (SDH) & DWDM (OTN)} networks and customer access segments, with emphasis on uptime, scalability and redundancy.
Be fully responsible and accountable for the leadership, development and line-management responsibilities for the IP & Transmission Design team.
Carry out capacity planning and management across the entire network.
Implement international NNIs as part of Vodacom Groups Pan-African network.
Review and optimize existing core IP/MPLS and transmission circuits and develop / implement new processes and procedures towards ensuring maximum availability on the core network.
Prepare change control documentation in line with core and access network requirements.
Manage the security of IP/MPLS network and its uptime.
Manage business continuity and failover/redundancy on network core elements.
Manage core network documentation, ensuring it's accurate, version controlled and readily available.
Carry out detailed and advanced configuration tasks on Core network elements - Cisco Routers, Switches, Mutiplexers, etc when required.
Ensure all necessary network security policies and procedures are in place and in line with Vodacom Business standards.
Manage IP address assignment and database for the entire network.
Manage Network access login servers - Tacacs and implement network access policies.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports on state of network performance.
Provide expert level support for the design , planning and fault resolution for VBN's VoIP and network security platforms
Liaise with Project management, Provisioning, Customer Services Operations Centre (CSOC), Enterprise Network Services (ENS) and the Network Services Africa (NSA) teams and any other relevant parties (internal or external) for the integration of new local and international circuits.
Manage Core network capacity - ensuring that the business is formally notified when utilization of core links are at 70% and above.

Specific Roles

Ensure all core circuits are pro-actively managed and monitored.
Ensure that good co-operation and team work exists between Network Engineering and other segments of the business.
Provide 4th level and final internal escalation support to the CSOC on fault resolutions.
Manage core network spares and forecast for future network expansion and growth.
Carry out any other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Network Engineering.

Requirements/Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic or Computer Engineering with cumulative grading equal to or greater than Second class Upper division ( 2-1)
Cisco certification at expert level CCIE. Routing and Switching and/or Service Provider.
Minimum of  2 to 3 years managerial experience in leading commercially-oriented technical teams.
Minimum of 8 years hands on experience in the design, capacity planning, implementation and management of IP/MPLS  and wireline transmission - TDM (SDH), Ethernet and DWDM (OTN) networks in an Enterprise ISP and international IP/MPLS VPN Service Provider or mobile network environment .
In depth knowledge of IGPs, EGPs, layer 2 and layer 3 MPLS VPNs, QoS and Traffic Engineering Firewall, cloud computing and tier 3 data centre environments.
Possesses an appreciable knowledge of voice over IP, network security, scalable network design, and managed services concepts.
Multi-vendor equipment experience is an advantage.
