Funded by UK aid from the Department for International Development, the Women for Health Initiative (W4H) is a five year programme (2012-2017) implemented by consortium of partners led by Health Partners International that aims to address the acute shortage of female health workers in five states of northern Nigeria. The programme is supporting of MDG 4 (the reduction of child mortality) and MDG 5 (the reduction of maternal mortality) in five states - Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe and Zamfara, which are experiencing Socio-economic and human resources for health challenges.

One of the program's promising strategies towards increasing rural female health care workers is Foundation Year Program [FYP]. We identified the need to track the experiences and outcomes of FYP students through conducting a cohort study from 2016 to 2019. The program seeks to employ a Data Manager who is expected to begin in April 2016.

POSITION : Data Manager 

The Data Manager based in Kano will provide day-to-day coordination and management of the implementation of the cohort study and its coordination with other W4H operations research activities. S/he will receive support and technical oversight from the W4H Operations Research Adviser.

Functions of this position will include:

Creating and managing the W4H research database.
Collaborating with the LGAs where the FYP graduates are posted to establish and maintain data on their posting and key workload details.
Providing support to identify and train the M&E Local Engagement Consultants to conduct surveys and capture in the database.
Coordinating and implementation of other W4H operations research activities and ensuring an integrated approach with the cohort study.
Integrating all elements into the W4H database and assisting in preparing the annual reports for review by the W4H stakeholders.

Qualification Required

A Masters Degree in Social Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics and other related fields of study.
The candidate must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role in Nigeria, preferably in the developmental sector;
Previous experience in database management as well as the ability to supervise data entry is mandatory;
Competency in statistics such as developing data analysis plans, building tables and graphs and reporting on methods will be an added advantage;
Project management skills including effective planning, coordination, monitoring and reporting skills will be an added advantage.
