POSITION : Operations Research Advisor

Length of placement (months): 6

The Volunteer's Role

  • The "Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme" (ECEWS) seeks to improve education and health in Nigeria.
  • ECEWS runs a Sexual and Reproductive Health intervention project in Cross River State. The project has various components, including the training of health workers in HIV integration and the support of a Youth Health Confidence Center.
  • The Sexual and Reproductive Health intervention project is funded by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
  • The goal of the project is to reduce the rate of sexually transmitted infections among young people and to promote family planning and HIV treatment and care across target states.
  • The project is in line with Cuso International's program focus on Access to Quality Health Services that seeks to improve the capacity of organizations that provide adolescent and youth health information and services.
  • Conduct HIV/AIDS related operational research, including the design of the research approach

Essential Academic Qualifications

  • Relevant Education in fields that include Political Science, International Development and Health

Essential Professional Background/Competencies:

  • Research experience, preferrably in the area of health, HIV/AIDS
  • Experience designing and implementing research projects
  • Experience using research to inform policy and programming
  • Strong analysis skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Experience in program design and implementation
