Kaduna State University - Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of the Vice-Chancellor, Kaduna State University; The position which will be vacant with effect from 24th January 2017. In accordance with the provisions of the Kaduna State University Law No 3 of 2004, the Governing Council of the University hereby advertises the vacancy. Therefore, interested candidates are requested to note the following:
POSITION : Vice-Chancellor
The Job
- The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, ex-officio Chairman of the Senate and member of the Governing Council. Among his/her other functions, the Vice Chancellor shall:
- Be competent at all times to advise the Council on any matter affecting the policy, finance, and administration of the University;
- Be generally responsible to the Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University, and ensuring the proper enforcement of the Laws, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University;
- Be responsible for discipline in the University; and
- Regulate the admission of students subject to the guidelines and procedures approved by the University Senate and other statutory bodies.
Qualifications Required
The candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor is required to possess the following qualities:
- Be a highly distinguished academic with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline
- Be a university teacher of the rank of Professor attained in a university of high reputation;
- Be a person of very high academic standing and reputation in his/her discipline;
- Be a successful scholar who is well rooted in the finest academic traditions.
- Should be a person with wide contacts to advance the cause of the university;
- Have had a wide academic and administrative experience at a reputable university and be capable of giving dynamic academic and administrative leadership;
- Be able to engender both national and international respect, particularly in the academic world;
- Possess the ability to create the much needed harmony between staff and students on the one hand and between members of the university community and the wider community on the other;
- Be a person with a clear vision and capacity to pursue the continuous development of the University even under resource constraints;
- Be prepared to demonstrate commitment to the University's vision, mission and core values, as well as the pursuit of its strategic objectives;
- Should be an individuals who, judging from their tract records, are likely to command the willing respect as well as loyalty of members of staff and students of the University
- Be morally sound and of unassailable integrity;
- Be someone who appreciates, and acts on merit and who will hot succumb to undue pressure;
- Be a person who is not older than 65 years at the point of assumption of duty as Vice-Chancellor; and possess appreciable computing skills as well as the ability to embrace information and communications technology.
Conditions of Service
- The Vice Chancellor shall serve for a single term of Five years.
- The remuneration and other conditions of service shall be as obtained in the Nigerian University System and/or as approved by Council, from time to time.

- Each application should be made in Twenty-Five (25) copies and should be accompanied with Twenty-Five (25) copies of the candidates' current Curriculum Vitae duly signed and dated by the candidate.
- The Curriculum Vitae must include the candidate's Name in full, Age, Marital status, Educational attainment, Nationality, Professional and academic achievements and any other relevant information.
- Each application should include the names and addresses of three referees (at least one of whom should be able to testify to the academic standing of the candidate and another to testify to his/her moral character and integrity).
- Each referee should be contacted by the applicant to forward directly to the Registrar a confidential report on him/her in a properly sealed envelope marked
- "Referee's Report for Application for the Position of Vice-Chancellor” at the top left hand corner of the envelope.
- Each application must be accompanied by Twenty Five (25) copies of statement of the candidate's vision of the University in the Twenty-first (21) century;
