The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Summary

Duties
- Incumbent serves as a boat pilot for the Motor Pool and reports directly to the Motor Pool Supervisor, operating independently to ensure safe and effective utilization of our boats which carry up to 36 passengers per trip.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:
- Completion of primary school is required.

Experience:
- Three (3) years of professional boat piloting experience on Lagos coast and near offshore waters is required.

Job Knowledge
- Knowledge of outboard motor operation and maintenance is required. Knowledge of Nigerian and Lagos State boating laws and regulations is required.

Evaluations:
- This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.
Language:
- Good Working Knowledge in English reading/writing/speaking is required.

Skills anf Abilities:
- Must have current boat pilot/quartermaster license.
- Must have excellent boat handling skills in all local Lagos waterways including the open ocean.
- Must understand boat and outboard motor maintenance procedures including refueling.
- Must understand boat instrument reading and inshore and offshore navigation.
- Must understand boat safety procedures.
- Must be a strong swimmer and be able swim 50 meters out and back in the open water.
- Must have the physical and mental ability to assist passengers in distress.
- Boat pilot must be able to lift/pull 50 pounds out of the water.
