Job Title: Chief Officer, Health Safety & Environment

Location: Ibese, Ogun

Job Description

  • This role is suitable for a sound HSSE Professional with a strong bias for Environmental monitoring, compliance and management.
  • It entails continuously improving environmental performance, facilitating compliance with DIL Group / DCP HSSE and Sustainability Policies, Standards, and Guidelines, as well as promoting and supporting industry compliance and regulatory environmental standards.
  • Additionally, it is crucial to ensure effective implementation of all EMS programs, procedures, training, work practices, and controls.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify and understand the environmental issues that affect Dangote Cement Plant, Ibese, its products, suppliers, contractors, and the wider industry. Establish the implications and develop appropriate plans to address these issues.
  • Primary responsibility for supporting the response to an environmental emergency.
  • Support to maintain relevant environmental management systems/certifications, etc.
  • Support to design and deliver environmental training for Dangote staff, contractors, and other relevant individuals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including environmental groups and regulatory authorities.
  • Establish annual programs for improving HSE.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Head of Department.
  • Work closely with respective plants/teams to implement the appropriate Environmental Management System.
  • Track Leading and Lagging KPIs and report to Head of Department especially around corrective actions management.
  • Ensure robust Environmental investigations and follow- ups program is in place.
  • Prepare EMS report for DCP Ibese Plant.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Head of Department.
  • Ensure compliance to all Environmental statutory and regulatory requirement, ensure that all relevant permits and certificates are obtained and are valid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Science / Engineering, or an environmental-related discipline is required, with a preference for candidates with an advanced degree.
  • Membership in the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment or its equivalent, or membership in an internationally recognized environmental professional body, is desirable.
  • NEBOSH Environment Management Certificate is desirable.
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years of experience in Environment Management, including at least 6 years in a supervisory position
  • Proficiency in Environment Management Systems, Environmental Discharges, Incident Investigation, HSE Auditing Techniques, and more
  • Hands-on expertise dealing with environmental issues
  • Proven ability to create effective PR/communications
  • Background in the manufacturing industry
  • Ability to manage projects within given budgets
  • Strong familiarity with various environmental concerns, specifically those relevant to the Cement Industry.
  • Proficient comprehension of the business environment.
